Content is King

Content is King

When it comes to your website visitors’ experience, content is king. Content comes in many forms and ultimately should be something that visitors are looking for and help them with a need or desire they have. The visitors on your website are there to find something of value. Will you give it to them?

Website Content Types:

Articles uploaded to the site such as news and how-to instructionsBlog postings and editorial contentComments and feedback to blog posts and articlesForums, discussion/bulletin boards and Q&A postingsAdvertising including classified adsOpinions and reviewsProduct or service catalogsListings such as employment opportunitiesDirectories including membershipLinks to other websitesDocuments such as academic research papers and white papersData such as demographics and financial analysesSite information such as company bios, privacy policies, return policies and disclaimersWikis that allow multiple visitors to update the contentEbooksPicturesVideosAudioAnd many more!

I would also add another type of content to the list: the content that visitors are looking for on a site but cannot find because it either does not exist or is buried in some obscure section of the site. Feedback from your visitors is really helpful on this one. Poll them periodically to find out what they want to see and find out if there are any improvements they would recommend for the site. Better yet, consider giving them the opportunity to write articles for your site. It could be a great way to engage your base and build your site’s content!
