Content is King

Content is King

When it comes to your website visitors’ experience, content is king. Content comes in many forms and ultimately should be something that visitors are looking for and help them with a need or desire they have. The visitors on your website are there to find something of value. Will you give it to them?

Website Content Types:

Articles uploaded to the site such as news and how-to instructionsBlog postings and editorial contentComments and feedback to blog posts and articlesForums, discussion/bulletin boards and Q&A postingsAdvertising including classified adsOpinions and reviewsProduct or service catalogsListings such as employment opportunitiesDirectories including membershipLinks to other websitesDocuments such as academic research papers and white papersData such as demographics and financial analysesSite information such as company bios, privacy policies, return policies and disclaimersWikis that allow multiple visitors to update the contentEbooksPicturesVideosAudioAnd many more!

I would also add another type of content to the list: the content that visitors are looking for on a site but cannot find because it either does not exist or is buried in some obscure section of the site. Feedback from your visitors is really helpful on this one. Poll them periodically to find out what they want to see and find out if there are any improvements they would recommend for the site. Better yet, consider giving them the opportunity to write articles for your site. It could be a great way to engage your base and build your site’s content!

CAPTCHA is actually an acronym for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.” CAPTCHAs display an image that people can detect, but computers cannot and it is used to keep malicious computer “bots” and other automated programs from using Web forms.

recaptcha

Actually a good idea, but there’s a lot of time and effort involved in it. Approximately 150.000 hours are spent every day by users around the world trying to decipher CAPTCHAs. Sometimes they use distorted images like wavy letters or a background with a strong pattern, which makes it difficult for humans to read them too. ReCAPTCHA, which we use on motigo, aims not only to make this easier but also to give this lost time a useful purpose.

reCAPTCHA uses real words instead of the code fragments used by conventional CAPTCHAs. The words used by reCAPTCHA are words, which computers could not read when digitalizing a book. So, when you type a reCAPTCHA, you are actually helping to digitalize a book. Read more on the reCAPTCHA website .

]]>Motigo has re-arranged the top lists of the webstats catalogue. Up to now, the ranking was based on the daily number of Page Views of a website. Starting from now, the ranking will be based of the number of daily Visits instead (you can find this value on your statistic page under “Visits”). Why did we do it? We consider this to be a much fairer basis for the ranking, since the number of visitors of a website is hard to manipulate and so we hope to have a fairer website ranking for all users. Page Views and Visits – what is the difference?

Page views is the view of one page in your website – every time a page is loaded, this is considered a Page View. It doesn’t make any difference if it is the same user visiting the page or not.

Visits are the number of individual visits to your website. This statistic is based on recognition of a browser cookie in the visitor’s browser. Therefore, the visitor is not counted again if he has already been visiting the site within the last 24 hours.

Virtual Assistant – What’s That?

Let?s create a mental picture. Imagine an Administrative Assistant sitting at a desk in an office utilizing today?s technology to perform the routine and specialized administrative tasks that are critical to the success of your business. Typing correspondence and reports, answering phones, making follow-up calls, responding to emails, creating documents and spreadsheets, managing and tracking your databases, building presentations, scheduling meetings and appointments, arranging your travel and communicating with your clients. She is a highly skilled administrative support professional with top level experience and? she?s there to support you!

Now imagine that same administrative professional performing all of the above tasks? from her own home office. Same level of skills, knowledge and experience. Same office technology and communication tools. Same highly proficient assistant performing the same administrative tasks only now she?s working from home and? she?s still there to support you!

But let?s go a step further and take away her employee status and along with that the cost of her benefits, health insurance and vacation pay. Let?s not forget that heavy annual salary not to mention the cost of office space and equipment. Now we?ll eliminate the standard 40-hour work week and make her available only for the number of hours that you really need her. Finally, let?s have her offer you a great rate for her superior service.

What you now have is a Virtual Assistant (or VA). A member of one of the fastest growing business trends of the last 20 years. VA?s are independent contractors, service providers who specialize in providing administrative support services to clients in ongoing, collaborative professional relationships.

Virtual Assistants have become the practical administrative solution for small and medium sized businesses, organizations, entrepreneurs and mobile professionals that need high level professional administrative support but may not have the space, budget, or workload for a conventional employee.

Imagine Administrative Support in a whole new way - Virtually!

What is Internet Marketing?

Internet Marketing Lifecycle

Internet marketing in its simplest definition is the marketing of goods and services via the internet. Because of the explosive growth of the internet as a medium, the definition of internet marketing has expanded to include not just web pages but also email, mobile and search engine marketing and optimization.

A good internet marketer is someone who is not only creative with designing great marketing campaigns but also technically savvy and able to leverage the full range of marketing capabilities available on the internet today. A good internet marketer will also be ethical and employ internet marketing fundamentals for the purpose of adding value to customers. He or she will also be budget conscious and adept at finding free and low-cost ways to market a company’s products and services.

Company’s have found that internet marketing, whether done exclusively or in addition to traditional marketing, comes at a significant cost advantage and wide reach. In addition, many customers expect a company to have an internet presence that will benefit them in some way such as through promotions and dissemination of useful information. These two facts have cemented the importance of internet marketing to any company serious about being relevant in the 21st century.

One of the huge benefits of internet marketing is the speed at which a campaign can be created, implemented and results analyzed for action. Web site statistics can be analyzed on a daily basis to determine which campaigns are more impactful and should be expanded while other campaigns can be dropped cold after very little investment. Analytics reveal to internet marketers who their visitors are, what content most interests them and leads to conversions.

Avoiding Broken Links

Page Not Found

Most experts recommend using custom 404 Page Not Found error messages and redirects for pages that cannot be found on your website. 404 errors can happen for a number of reasons, all of which you can do something about that will benefit your site visitors.

One source of 404 content errors is a search engine not being up-to-date with your site’s content. Use a site map and publish it frequently to the major search engines. This Another reason for 404s is bookmarks from other sites, emails or links saved to someone’s favorites that are no longer valid. A 404 Page Not Found error could also be caused by site administration problems like broken links and scheduled maintenance activities.

You should check your site for broken links periodically to avoid link rot. Also, organizing site content with a pre-defined taxonomy and using permalinks can reduce the amount of reshuffling and re-categorization of content needed in the future. Finally, avoid dead end pages that have no links back out to other pages. While this does not produce page not found errors, it can be just as annoying to some visitors.
